Launch-patch solo choice

Best Solo Class in Mistfall Hunter

Mercenary is the safest first recommendation. Blackarrow and Shadowstrix offer more solo pressure and control over engagements when your aim and positioning can support them.

Quick answer

Choose Mercenary for your first solo character. Sword & Shield gives a clear defensive plan, the official launch notes describe Mercenary as broadly balanced, and independent guides consistently call it beginner-friendly. Choose Blackarrow for ranged solo pressure or Shadowstrix for mobility and ambushes—but both punish bad positioning more severely.

Aug 6–7 patch check

The latest official updates do not provide enough evidence to replace Mercenary as the beginner default. Blackarrow lost some Steel Arrow impact, Withered Knight received small Energy-cost reductions, and targeted Mercenary/Sorcerer issues were fixed. Treat every pick below as patch-sensitive rather than a permanent tier.

Best by need

The best solo pick for each playstyle

Best first solo class

Mercenary

Sword & Shield offers direct defense and forgiving fundamentals. Switch toward Hammer when you understand spacing and want more PvE impact.

Best ranged pressure

Blackarrow

Official data says high-tier solo performance was slightly overtuned before launch adjustments. The Aug 6 update reduced Steel Arrow impact, so strong aim and distance control matter even more.

Best mobility and ambush

Shadowstrix

Dagger and Dual Blades help you choose fights, burst, and disengage. Official notes reduced excessive mobility and chain control, so beta clips can mislead.

Best spell control

Sorcerer

Elemental and Stardust paths cover ranged AoE and crowd control, but the developers explicitly called out the class’s steep learning curve and baseline survivability.

Why Mercenary

Why the default answer is not the flashiest class

A beginner solo pick should reduce the number of systems you must solve at once. Mercenary does that better than the specialist classes:

  1. Defense is readable. Sword & Shield gives you a direct answer when an enemy reaches melee range.
  2. The class is officially balanced. The launch DevNote did not flag Mercenary as broadly over- or underperforming.
  3. You can change the risk profile. Sword & Shield emphasizes safety; Hammer raises commitment and PvE payoff.
  4. The lesson transfers. Spacing, parry timing, stamina or energy discipline, and extraction judgment matter on every later class.
Editorial, not official

“Best first solo class” is our current recommendation from official balance context plus independent launch guides. Bellring Games does not publish an official solo tier list.

When to switch

Choose another class when your strength is already clear

Pick Blackarrow if…

you consistently aim under pressure, preserve distance, and prefer to spend positioning skill instead of defensive durability.

Pick Shadowstrix if…

you read the map well, avoid long fair fights, and save mobility to leave after a burst attempt.

Pick Sorcerer if…

you enjoy controlling space with spells and are willing to learn cast timing, energy use, and escape routes.

Pick Withered Knight if…

you prefer heavy melee, pressure cycles, pulls, parries, and winning through timing instead of speed.
